After Shelf Life Expiration
Date
What happen after SLED (material shelf life expiration date)?
Answer:
Nothing happens automatically in the system even when time goes by.
But if you execute tcode QA07 then system will do what you want according
to your settings in the selection screen.
Click the blue info button in QA07 for documentation about this tcode.
If the SLED is reached to the material batch, batch is treated as expired
and a quality check will be needed to the material either to extend the
expire date of the material or to scrap. If the material is QM managed,
need to do the quality usage decision to see that the material is reused.
System will keep the batch as such.
Basically when a material already reach its expiration date, SAP will
not allowed it to be used in transaction posting.
But the total quantity will be still included in MRP calculation. So
it will make a misjudge in stock condition if we do not take an immediate
action to this batch.
So, we usually monitor the SLED condition using report MB5M
If there are a material that exceed its expiration date, then there
are 2 options you can do for material that pass the expiration date.
1. Change the batch status to restricted.
2. Move the material to a storage location where it will not be included
in MRP process.
After that, we can decide what will be our next step for this batch,
whether we want to pass the material to QM module or to scrap the material
or to return the material to vendor.
